♥️Must Have Tips For Holiday Hair Care ♥️

Ever been on holiday, sitting by the pool or on the beach, yearning to jump into the water without having to worry about the nightmare that is tangled holiday hair? Well, we've all been there! Here we give you some tips on how to look after your hair, so you can swim away and frolic in the surf with pure confidence!

We've split these tips into stages so it's super easy for you to digest. So, without further ado, here's what you need to know in order to hit the beach, pool or the sea with pizazz!:

What you need to prevent

  • Sun frying dry hair
  • Sea salt/chlorine residue, which is a nightmare to brush out
  • Tangles
  • Sunburnt hair

What you need

  • Gentle hair ties
  • Leave-in conditioner
  • Hair oil
  • Wide-toothed comb
  • Swim cap, scarf or hat
  • Book! (obvs!)

What you need to do:

  • Twist, plait or tie hair in a bun before hitting the sea or pool
  • Soak hair first. Hair is porous, so saturating the cuticles with moisture (clean water) lets very little chlorine enter the hair shaft. Plus, wet hair soaks up fewer chemicals than dry hair
  • Then coat your hair in oil to protect your shaft, seal cuticles AND create a barrier against salt in the sea or chemicals in a pool - especially on ends. This forms a protective layer and keeps salt and chlorine out out
  • Slather on hair mask or a conditioner of your choice

How To Protect Your Hair In The Water

  • Tie hair up, braid or twist. Hair left loose is more likely to tangle. Once twisted or braided it can be tied back. Shorter hair can be pinned back with bobby pins
  • If you prefer your hair covered, use a swim cap, to limit exposure to salty or chlorinated water. If you can’t do these, a scarf could work, too

  • Do a post-swim rinse to remove salt or chemical/chlorine residue
  • Slather on hair mask or leave-in conditioner
  • Coat the hair in oil to protect the hair shaft, seal hair cuticles and create a barrier from the elements
  • If your hair was loose for your swim, either gently finger detangle or use a wide-tooth comb to tease out tangles; then put your hair in a quick & gentle protective style, like a bun or two or french braids

How To Protect Your Hair Whilst Sunbathing

  • To prevent sunburnt hair, wear a hat or silk scarf whilst sunbathing. It stops the sun frying your hair

And there you have it. Easy-peasy pointers on how to care for your hair while getting you much needed R&R on holiday!
